Abstract: I exploredthe impact of noxious heat on the chemical activation oftransient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1) in mosquitoes. TRPA1 is a receptor of noxious heat and repellents, butwhether heat modulates TRPA1 response to repellents is unknown. By using whole-cell voltage clamping of heterologously expressed Aedes aegypti TRPA1,I found that heat reduced its activation by citronellal. My findings suggest the possibility of reduced efficacy of repellents targeting TRPA1 under extreme heat events.
