Vilma is a Ph.D. student at the Florida Medical Entomology Laboratory from the University of Florida. Her research is focused on the use of ecology for the development of management strategies for the control of Culicoides biting midges that transmit hemorrhagic disease viruses to deer. Vilma's research projects include extension-based studies to understand the pesticide use by deer farmers in Florida, the development and evaluation of methodologies for assessing insecticide susceptibility and resistance of Culicoides biting midges to permethrin, and studies to understand the temporal and vertical flight activity of hemorrhagic disease vectors.
Vilma is also an active member of the AMCA Young Professionals committee, and she is always happy to connect with other AMCA members!
