Sarah Wheeler was introduced to the world of mosquito control while studying the role of wild birds in the spread of West Nile virus. She went on to earn a PhD at the University of California, Davis, investigating the overwintering mechanisms of West Nile virus with Dr. William Reisen. Sarah started working as the Biologist at Sacramento-Yolo Mosquito and Vector Control District in 2015 where she conducted applied research on product efficacy, emerging products, and application techniques. Currently, she is the Laboratory Director at Sac-Yolo MVCD where she oversees the surveillance arm of the District’s operations working to provide actionable data that is used to select and escalate mosquito control strategies.
